I know the January Vogue article about Miss Lara Stone has been read and talked about by many but I am still constantly thinking about her words. It has been a statement in the making, placing the body of the classic Supermodel on the pages of Vogue, Bazaar, and all of the European editions. Although this woman’s body is no where near average, it has been so refreshing to see her not only in editorials and ads, but also working the runway like the rest of the young models whom don’t stray from the ever-popular size 0. I can not imagine the daily scrutiny in the life of a model and many of us already fight with our own sense of self and body dissatisfaction daily without the help of others. So this is a beautiful thing for Vogue to include in the first issue of the new year. Yes, it has been done before but it is always appreciated by me and I am sure many American women. These magazines should continue to not shy away from body image articles and to let us know there is some humanity within the pages.

I recently stumbled upon the streetstyle and inspiration blog, Turned Out, and I find the photos fulfill me in a different way than the usual trendy & edgy streetstyle blogs I often glance at. Maya’s shots are charming and fresh. The people seem carefree and the natural lighting is oh, so beautiful. Here are a few of my favorite images from the recent increasingly cold months. Enjoy.

After seeing a wonderful film over the weekend, Bright Star, I was completely intrigued by the beautiful cinematography and costumes of the true story of John Keats and Fanny Brawne’s love. Often I find myself gravitating towards organic and rustic looking jewelry, equestrian style boots, sheer ivory blouses, lacey tops, classic blazers; all are quite vintage inspired pieces that can look modern and edgy at the same time. The smoking jacket is classic but with a long line lapel and wrap over buttoned front it creates a different take than a usual blazer. These harem pants are cashmere, the ultimate fall and winter indulgence and I feel that I would be completely satisfied wearing them throughout the next few months. The Golden Goose boots and Jerome Dreyfuss bag made of a distressed grey leather compliment an all black look well, especially paired with oxidized silver jewelry or mixed chains. The Alice and Olivia necklace with chain appliqué details is more interesting than the common layered chain necklaces. Oxidized silver always reminds me of a rustic wrought iron fence and the Alex and Ani champagne diamond ring is very simple and pretty. The fettY bracelet adds more romantic charm with diamonds that say “what if” in braille. The two booties differ in vintage appeal but the Kors boots are a dark grey-green suede and the Anthropologie wedges are burnished brown with a wrap around buckle. Both have a curve on the heel or wedge that softens the look. All three of the pieces: the Robert Rodriquez pants,the Kova & T bodysuit, and the Helmut Lang blazer would look great together or with other romantic and vintage looking pieces.

Will you be sporting a pair of 4+ inch pumps this fall? It seems like platforms have taken over for fall and growing increasingly taller. The YSL ‘Aliama’ Pump is an almost shocking 5.5 inches with a 1.5 inch front platform. I love the glossy sculpted 4.75 inch heel of the Alexander Wang ‘Natasha’ Choked Pump and you can mimic the look with the glossy front platform of the Velvet Angels Town Peep Toe Pump. The entire Nicholas Kirkwood collection features many different shapes of sculpted platforms and Jil Sander, YSL, Steve Madden, and Giuseppe Zanotti have designs that parallel the style of the “hidden” platform.

I am really enjoying the abundance of suede shoes this fall, whether they are ankle boots or platforms. The YSL booties and pumps that are imitated by Steve Madden are a lovely shade of dove grey. Although I always have some sort of guilt buying blatant copies, I must say that they may be too close to pass up. I also would really appreciate a good 5.5 inches added to my petite stature.

Christopher Kane’s newest line for Topshop is definitely something I have been looking forward to. Some of the pieces are more risqué, but I am fond of the girly light yellow dresses. I am also liking the waisted one-shouldered dress that differs from the often-seen one shoulder tight mini dress. The famed Gorilla Tee is paralleled by the Crocodile topshop dress. Next month I will be sure to head into Topshop for this occasion.

It is wonderful to see Tanya D returning to the editorial world and I was especially inspired by these Vogue Spain shots for the September issue. Each photo in “Vuelta a Casa” is unique and a refreshing reversal from her usual edgy editorials. I truly loved the relaxing and cool energy of this shoot. My favorite pieces would have to be the white Givenchy lace dress, Balenciaga dress, and Chloe bow heels.
